Green Raters provide in-the-field verification services at each and every LEED® BD+C: Homes and LEED® BD+C: Multifamily Midrise Project and therefore they play a critical part in Homes certification. Green Raters are responsible for:
Providing on-site verification services on a LEED®-registered homes project
Assembling the Project Submittal Package and submitting it for certification review
Verifying that the home is designed and built to the rigorous requirements of the rating system through onsite verification.
Green Raters must be involved with the project throughout the construction process and to get a LEED® for Homes Certified, it is mandatory to work with a Green Rater authorized through GBCI's Green Rater Certificate program.
All Green Raters work with homes Provider Organizations to complete the verification process for each BD+C: Homes and BD+C: Multifamily Midrise project.
Providers provide quality assurance oversight for each Green Rater, as well as technical expertise and guidance. Providers are organizations authorized by GBCI based on demonstrated experience and expertise in residential green building and on-site verification.
In addition to a Green Rater, a LEED® BD+C:Homes and LEED® BD+C:Multifamily Midrise Project must also involve a Certified HERS rater, who verifies the energy features through inspections, testing and creation of an energy model. For International projects however, according to LEED® Interpretation ID#10443, this can be done by an Energy Rater who has received at least 4 hours of formal training in each of the following: building science fundamentals, blower door testing, air sealing inspections, insulation inspections and duct leakage testing. In addition, this person needs to have experience performing energy inspections and testing on at least two building projects and have at least 3 years of professional experience in residential construction.
To allow you to meet all the requirements in order to act as a Green Rater and Energy Rater in LEED® for Homes projects, Green Living Projects is hosting a European LEED® for Homes Training Program offered by Active Energies, an approved training provider.
