Global Real Estate Sustainability Benchmark | GRESB

GRESB B.V. was founded in 2009 by a number of property fund owners who wanted to facilitate access to comparable and reliable data on the environmental, social and governance (ESG) benchmark of their investments. The participants in the assessments receive comparative business information on where they stand in relation to their competitors, a timetable with the measures that they can take to improve their ESG performance, and a communication platform to connect with the investors

The Handbuch for the assessment can be viewed freely on the GRESB website. The assessment is broken down into the categories Management, Performance and Development. The GRESB results are published in the form of a benchmark report, see example on the system provider’s website.

The results are compared with a peer group (country/location, use, influence on building operation). The achievable score lies between 1 and 5 “stars”. The goal is to achieve the “Green Star” rating.

GRESB participants can upload facility data directly to ARC in order to identify potential certifications, to improve their ESG ratings and to compare real estate properties in a portfolio with one another.
